VISIT SUSSEX

Why not take a look at beautiful West Sussex countryside while you're in the area? Within ten miles of Bignor Park are heaps of interesting places worth a visit.

For countryside lovers, the magnificent South Downs are hard to beat. The ancient South Downs Way passes a few miles south of Bignor Park, boasting wonderful views towards the sea and right across the Sussex Weald. The Pulborough Brooks are a haven for wildlife and a great place for a level walk if you don't fancy climbing any steep hills. Arundel Wetlands Centre is a good place to take children to learn about wildlife.

Bignor has its very own Roman Villa, a once lavish baronial farmstead with spectacular mosaic floors. Arundel Castle is a romantic castle perched on a hillside overlooking the River Arun. The castle has been home to the Dukes of Norfolk for centuries. Petworth House is a stately home run by the National Trust which contains an outstanding collection of paintings by Old Masters as well as beautiful parkland gardens.

For shopping, the cobbled streets of Petworth are home to a concentration of high-class antique shops, it's one of the biggest antiques centres outside London. Arundel has some unusual and interesting shops and slightly further afield is the lovely cathedral city of Chichester, which is a major shopping centre.

Other places nearby that have plenty of interesting things to see include Midhurst, home to the cursed Cowdray Ruins and famous for polo Goodwood (known for horse racing, motor racing and Goodwood House). Slindon is a pretty village owned by the National Trust and Amberley is a picture postcard village with its own castle.
